Embrace the geospatial revolution

Update your business with cutting-edge GIS

What is Cetopo?
A simple and powerful tool for using Finlands Excellent geospatial data

Familiar & Easy Google Maps interface

Use google maps to find a location, or search for it with a search box. You can also search using property number (kiinteistötunnus).

Intuitive and powerfull area selection & preview

Use rectangle or polygon tools to manually select a custom area, or use the property selector to conveniently select a property with one click.

Higly customizable Dxf contours

Accurate contours in 2D or 3D, with a high degree of customizability. Supports all major CAD software.

Point clouds for Revit & other BIM software

Use the raw, undiluted data directly in certain applications.

3D Meshes for 3D-printing & CNC

Create stunning 3D-prints, CNCs, or other visualizations using optimized meshes. Available in multiple formats.

Advanced Laser Cuts & Nesting service

Use Cetopos custom laser cut algorithm to create easy to assemble and automatically nested laser cuts!

Active Future

We strive to constantly improve and add new features to Cetopo. Send us a message if you think there is something missing from this list!

More Mesh, Less Data

A central theme of Cetopo is to enable you to see the bigger picture. The size limits on what you can get from Cetopo are quite lax, but the files have a tendency to become unwieldy when the area in question approaches a square kilometer.
Meshes in Archicad. Left: Original 50%. Middle: Dynamic 50% → 5% Right: Dynamic 50% → 1%

Dynamic resolution with Buffers

Usually only a central part of the area required needs to be perfectly accurate. The outer areas serve as visual guidance only, as they are not directly part of your project. Thus it is now possible to choose a Buffer around your selection. The resolution of your mesh (or points) is dynamically reduced inside this buffer area. This enables you to select much larger areas than previously without sacrificing performance. The down-sampling is done using intelligent algorithms, which put the data-points where they count.

Mesh & Point Cloud

The Buffer feature is initially available for the Mesh and Point Cloud products. You can find and enable it under Settings » Compression » Buffer.
Point density decreases towards the edge of the buffer zone. 1km diameter disk.

Colors for visuals

The Mesh product now contains vertex color and much improved vertex normals in the .obj file format and the 3D visualization. The color feature is still experimental near water, and will be improved in the future.

Colorized mesh showing of a smooth surface with crisp edges

Colors for clarity

The Laser Cut product now contains part coloring in the 3D visualization. The feature is aimed to assist in laser cut assembly, and to reveal possible faults in the cut more easily. Enable this under the symbol.

Laser Cut parts can be colorized by type for inspection.

Patch January

Its 2019, and with it comes fixes to several problems from 2018.

  • Point-cloud problems & file-size reduction: Point cloud files contained unnecessary data that increased the file-size and could cause problems in some programs.
  • Visualizer improvements: The 3D-visualizer now looks better and works better. It is now much easier to inspect laser-cuts using the new slider on the left, and you can stop the auto-rotation if you want. The visualizer now also shows the dimensions of your selected area in text next to the model. Several bugs related to the visualizer are also fixed.
  • "Index out of range" bug: Probably the most common bug should now be fixed for mesh & point cloud.
  • Pricing changes: The price of Cetopo has changed. It now starts at 150€ per year for one-person companies.
Looks better and works better. You can now manually slide through the assembly process.

Roadmap for 2019

I strive to improve all aspects of Cetopo this winter. If you have some development ideas, please be in touch.

  • Orthophotos: The BETA will be concluded as soon as possible.
  • Usage history & saving: You will be able to see your download history, as well as save important locations/selections for future re-use.
  • Laser cut upload: Possibility to be able to upload your 3D-model for laser-cut generation.
  • Cross-sections: Generate cross sections in Cetopo.
  • Building data-improvements: Adding height-data to buildings, as well as improved building data in general.
  • Tree-data: Forest coverage/average tree height/ individual tree locations (where possible);
  • Improved download manager: Choose multiple files for download/create custom packages. Share settings with others.
  • Better trial-version: The current trial account has some problems.
  • Better tutorials/help section: There are some videos now but they should be better. The help section could also be improved.
Almost all of Finland. Maybe it will be complete 2020!

Orthophoto BETA is here

A new type of data

Orthophotos provide one more layer of information to the stack. You can now include a high-res orthophoto in your dxf file under Contours. Aquiring and aligning orthophotos has been challenging before, but should now be trivial. Cetopo now provides you with accurate aerial imagery by the National Land Survey of Finland. Resolutions range from 16 to 1 pixels / square meter.

Just BETA for now

Orthophotos are now released as a BETA, meaning that the availability and quality of the data cannot be guaranteed. The underlying data is coming from a BETA service of the NLS. The Orthophotos will for now only be available as part of the Contours product, and only in the most common coordinate system, ETRS-TM35FIN.

To try out this feature, select an area, and then click Contours. Scroll down to the bottom of the settings, and enable Orthophoto. Click download, and you should receive a zip file with a dxf and the image.

Limitations (during BETA)

Orthophotos will have some limitations during BETA.

  • The data is downloaded from the NLS. It is thus subject to their availability. If you get an error message while trying to download the orthophoto, it might be because the NLS service is not available.
  • Restricted to orthophotos less than 2km wide, and 2km tall.
  • Only available in ETRS-TM35FIN coordinates (the most common one) for now.
  • This is a BETA product, thus it might stop working at any time.

Please try out this feature, and send us an email with your thoughts!

Student account re-activation

It's been a year since many of you registered, and it's now time to re-confirm your accounts. Unfortunately there was a bug in the re-confirmation process, Which should now be fixed. If there is still some problem in the process, please contact me here max.cedercreutz@cetopo.com

UX Improvements

The UX of the map view has been improved as part of an ongoing process to improve the Cetopo work flow. Some features were unintuitive, and should now be more clear.

A significant improvement is the introduction of undo+redo. Selections can now be undone and redone using the familiar keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y, or using the buttons on the interface.

Other notable improvements

  • A loading animation for images
  • A crispier polygon-select tool
  • Unambiguous red borders now mark the end of tha available area
The red boundary is visible at the top. The loading animation is (not moving) visible inside the selection.
