FAQ
Which countries do you cover?
We currently cover the UK, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.
How did Cetopo get started and where will you expand next?
Cetopo was founded in Helsinki, Finland in 2020. Built by (the son of) Architects, for Architects. Cetopo built a strong user base in the Nordics (expanding to Sweden in 2021, and Denmark in 2022), responding directly to frustrations arising around getting usable site models. We launched in the UK and Netherlands in 2023, and plan to keep growing wherever we can get our hands on accurate data.
Do you have in-house expertise?
We have a team of Architects, Developers, and BIM specialists who are on hand to help with technical questions, and workflow best practices.
How do you compare to other providers?
Cetopo supports a more agile and responsive way of working. With unlimited downloads and powerful configuration tools we give you complete control over models. Our models are designed to support the earlier stages of design work, providing instant access to highly accurate data, with LOD2 buildings.
Couldn’t we do this in-house?
Yes, and no. Most, but not all of the data sources Cetopo uses are available freely to the public, however they do not usually come in formats that are usable in typical Architectural software. Cetopo converts each data source into a native component for the software you use, and combines all of the sources into one editable model. This saves time and effort not only when building the model, but throughout the design process – allowing you to work seamlessly with context.
About the Platform
What are the data sources?
Cetopo uses data from 50+ sources, including Ordnance Survey (UK), National Land Survey (Finland), and Lantmäteriet (Sweden). For full details on your country please see our Data Sources page.
How many users can we have?
As many as you like! All Cetopo plans include unlimited seats.
What is a ‘project’?
A Project is an area defined by the user, and saved in Cetopo. It will appear as a rectangle outlined in yellow. Within this area, you can access and download models and drawings in any format you like.
Can I expand ‘project’ bigger than my standard size?
Yes, a project can be as large as you like, subject to an additional fee. Our expansion costs are on a sliding scale.
Using Cetopo Models
Which platforms do you support?
We support all major AEC softwares, including but not limited to: Revit, Archicad, Autocad, Rhino, Sketchup, Adobe Suite, as well as rendering softwares like Enscape and 3dsMax.
Are the models editable?
All of our models are fully editable. You can manipulate the terrain, buildings, roads etc as you like. Cetopo models are designed to be made up of components native to the software you use.
Do I have to pay extra to get models for two different platforms (e.g. Revit and Sketchup)?
No, you can download as many files, in as many formats as you want within a project, for no extra fee.
Cetopo in Practice
How can I prevent junior staff from opening projects/incurring costs?
We provide customisable user rights management, so you can control which users can open or expand projects, access receipts, and add users.
Will you train my staff to use Cetopo?
We provide training sessions and onboardings for all users, but since Cetopo is so easy to use, many users don’t need any help from us to get started.
How quickly can you get us started?
Once a contract is signed you will have immediate access to the platform and can start downloading models right away.
Buying Cetopo
What does it cost?
Cetopo plans vary per country and begin at less than 200€/project. We offer bulk discounts for bigger packages. Please contact us for more detailed information.
How can I offset the cost to my client?
Within Cetopo you can access ‘project receipts’ which detail the cost of the project and any expansion costs. These can be easily downloaded and passed on to your client.
Can we upgrade our plan?
Yes, anytime. Just send us an email. It is also possible to buy single additional projects.
